The Louis Armstrong House Museum's Gala 2016 will take place on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 pm and awards ceremony, dinner, and musical performance at 7:30 pm. The venue is the stunningly beautiful Capitale at 130 Bowery, Manhattan.
This year we pay tribute to distinguished writer, philanthropist and proud member of our Board of Trustees, Randy Fertel; celebrated Grammy-winning jazz performer Catherine Russell; and esteemed New York State Attorney General, Hon. Eric Schneiderman. Each will receive a Louie Award. Past recipients of the Louie Award include Quincy Jones, Dick Cavett, Dr. John, Cyrille Neville, Robert F. Smith, Jerome Chazen, Jimmy Heath, Jon Faddis, George Wein, and Dan Morgenstern.
The evening will conclude with a musical performance by the Catherine Russell Octet. Russell has been a hit at major jazz festivals and concert halls across the globe and her five albums have received stellar reviews. Among her many awards is a Grammy award for her appearance on the soundtrack album for the HBO television series Boardwalk Empire. Will Friedwald of the Wall Street Journal observed that "her singing is drenched in emotion, drama, experience and pure swing." Gala 2016 is a splendid opportunity to hear Russell and her band in a gorgeous hall, performing for a receptive audience.
Gala 2016 raises critical funds for the Museum by bringing together musicians, celebrities, supporters, community members, and music lovers from around the world to celebrate Louis and the work of the museum.
