Jazz history comes to life in Corona

Louis Armstrong was one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world when he chose the working-class neighborhood of Corona, Queens to be his home in 1943. We preserve Louis and Lucille’s home, now a historic site and world-class museum. We also provide access to Mr. Armstrong’s extensive archives, develop programs for the public that educate and inspire and host performances with multi-disciplinary artists from around the world.

The National Medal for Museum and Library Service

The Institute of Museum and Library Services, a federal organization, announced today that the Louis Armstrong House Museum is a winner of the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service! There were 10 winners in total, 5 libraries and 5 museums across the nation. We are thankful to our community for the decades of support that have led to this award. Queens Theater – Louis Armstrong at the World’s Fair!

At the Queens Theater in Flushing Meadows Park, experience a spectacular concert celebrating the timeless music and legacy of Louis Armstrong in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of his iconic concert at the World’s Fair. Alphonso Horne and the Gotham Kings will take the stage, showcasing their exceptional talent and deep passion for Louis Armstrong’s music.

Gotham Kings is a high energy immersive jazz experience! Two-time Grammy nominated trumpeter, Alphonso Horne has put together an all star band that weaves the sound of New Orleans, Funk, Jazz, and Hip Hop to bring a celebratory spirit that uplifts every room they play. Inspired by the music of King Oliver Creole Jazz Band, Gotham Kings uses the virtuosity of the young Louis Armstrong and innovative genius of King Oliver to take you on a journey of sound that encompasses the history of the trumpet and the story of jazz through rags, stomps, shouts and funk! The band has played in venues including Newport, Aspen, and Caramoor Jazz Festival, Louis Armstrong House Museum, Jazz at Lincoln Center and many more! Individually, members of the Gotham Kings have compiled a diverse resume of collaborations with top artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Michael Feinstein, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, The Colbert Show and more!

Community: Move & Groove Yoga in the Garden

Move & Groove Yoga visits our community of Corona/Queens to bring wellness and awareness in the beautiful Armstrong Garden. Naturally accompanied by a live improvisation, the practice will be a celebration of music and its transformative influece in the personal well being.

Participants will need to bring their own mat and a water bottle.

Trumpet Discovery Day! 2024

Next one on July 13th with Bruce Harris! Come learn inside stories of Louis off-stage, about his music and friends, visit his house, and enjoy a first-hand experience with the trumpet led by a stellar jazz artist in New York City!

This fun two-hour long program has been created for kids 8-14 years-old who wish to play the instrument. All levels are welcome. Registration is mandatory to participate. Complete your registration form here

Free Concerts in Queens Parks this Summer!

We’ve partnered with Kupferberg Center for the Arts, Flushing Town Hall, and the Queens Parks Department for free concerts in the parks! See you there!

Experience the vibrant legacy of jazz in the heart of Queens this summer! The Queens Jazz Trail Concert Series takes you on a musical journey through the borough’s rich jazz heritage, where legends like Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Tony Bennett, Lena Horne, and scores of others once called home.

Inspired by the iconic Queens Jazz Trail Map, the series brings this rich history to life in our community parks. Join us for a series of five Thursday evening concerts, each set against the backdrop of Queens’ beautiful parks. These FREE outdoor performances celebrate the past, present, and future of jazz, showcasing talented musicians and honoring the borough’s legendary artists.
